30 OctRecycle Your Pumpkins!

We are Colonial Floor Care!

Have some fun with this! A gift from Gary!

Yes that’s right, I said recycle your pumpkins! As you know, we talk a lot about the environment and recycling in this blog. Since it’s Halloween tomorrow, I’m going to talk a bit about pumpkin recycling. When I fist saw this headline in the Sunsentinel I thought that perhaps they were going a bit far with the whole recycling thing. Then I read a little further.

One of the things hurting our environment a great deal right now is methane gas. As the polar ice caps melt, methane gas trapped in the ice crystals is released.  Underground methane gas that had been trapped by ice is also being released. This is all very bad for the environment, and manifests in negative climate change.

Scientisits suggest that minimizing methane gas release even in small amounts is very important right now.

Which brings us to recycling pumpkins.

In the Sunsentiel, Friday, October 30, 2009, in the “Mother Nature Network”, the following was written: “When Nov. 1 hits, lots of pumpkins, carved and uncarved, hit the curb for the trash men to take away. When food goes to the landfill, anaerobic decomposition turns into methane gas. Methane gas is one of the contributing factors to climate change. What can you do with your leftover pumpkins?

Compost your pumpkin, eat it, give it away. Pumpkin is actually delicious raw in salds, cooked with olive oil, or as most of us know, cooked in pies, breads, cookies etc.

We really can no longer afford to ignore our environment.  Our lives depend on careful consideration of the environmental impact of all our actions. This is why we at Colonial Floor Care are always focused on the extent to which our operations are green. We use all non-toxic materials and procedures when we clean, restore, repair or polish your terrazzo, marble, granite or concrete. In South Florida, from Boca Raton to Coral Gables, from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, Colonial Floor Care is the number one green restoration company. Don’t forget to drop off your old rechargeable batteries and cell phones at Colonial Floor Care- we are a collection site for Call2Recycle.

29 OctConcrete Polishing and Acid Staining

We are Colonial Floor Care!

We are writing today not about terazzo, but about other services we offer- concrete acid staining, polishing, repair and restoration.

Many people in South Florida are unaware of the amazing new treatments that are available for concrete. Did you know that many designers are now incorporating concrete into interior design in the form of counter tops, tabletops and highly decorative flooring, to name a few?

Concrete acid staining is a long lasting, durable way to customize concrete surfaces by adding color and texture. Polishing creates a marble like finish that also seals the concrete. Both processes are non-toxic. Acid staining is not a dye that will fade. The acid stain chemicals actually bond with the surface layers of concrete, creating a colorful, durable surface.

Almost any color can be achieved through the acid staining method. This aqua blue is a favorite.

On counter tops and table tops, a marble like finish is achieved through polishing.

We serve all of South Florida- Boca Raton, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, Oakland Park, North Miami, Aventura- all areas. Give us a call and find out what we can do for your home!

Happy Halloween! 42951162

Today we will discuss the origin and nature of Terrazzo. The production and art of terrazzo began in Venice, Italy in the 1500’s. At that time, wealthy people had elaborate homes, just as they do today. Marble and granite were highly desirable to the wealthy as embellishments for their home, and indeed, public spaces.   After the marble and granite were chiseled to fit their place in the homes of the wealthy, construction workers collected the marble and granite chips left behind. They used these chips to make Read more…
