Recycle Your Pumpkins!

We are Colonial Floor Care!

Have some fun with this! A gift from Gary!

Yes that’s right, I said recycle your pumpkins! As you know, we talk a lot about the environment and recycling in this blog. Since it’s Halloween tomorrow, I’m going to talk a bit about pumpkin recycling. When I fist saw this headline in the Sun Sentinel, I thought that perhaps they were going a bit far with the whole recycling thing. Then I read a little further.

One of the things hurting our environment a great deal right now is methane gas. As the polar ice caps melt, methane gas trapped in the ice crystals is released. Underground methane gas that had been trapped by ice is also being released. This is all very bad for the environment, and manifests in negative climate change.

Scientists suggest that minimizing methane gas release even in small amounts is very important right now.

Which brings us to recycling pumpkins.

In the Sunsentiel, Friday, October 30, 2009, in the Mother Nature  Network,” the following was written: When Nov. 1 hits, lots of pumpkins, carved and uncared, hit the curb for the trash men to take away. When food goes to the landfill, anaerobic decomposition turns into methane gas. Methane gas is one of the contributing factors to climate change. What can you do with your leftover pumpkins?

Compost your pumpkin, eat it, give it away. Pumpkin is actually delicious raw in salads, cooked with olive oil, or as most of us know, cooked in pies, breads, cookies etc.

We really can no longer afford to ignore our environment. Our lives depend on careful consideration of the environmental impact of all our actions. This is why we at Colonial Floor Care are always focused on the extent to which our operations are green. We use all non-toxic materials and procedures when we clean, restore, repair or polish your terrazzo, marble, granite or concrete.
