Knowing When to Fix or Replace an Appliance Part 2

Part 2 of Homeowner Helpful Hints- Knowing When to Fix or Replace an Appliance.

Welcome back! We are Colonial Floor Care– South Florida’s terrazzo, marble, granite and concrete specialists!

Today we continue our series on maximizing energy efficiency by knowing when to replace or repair appliances.

We revisit the Sun sentinel article entitled “How to know when to fix or replace an appliance.”

Today’s topic- The average life of a major appliance.

Industry experts say washing machines tend to break down the most because they take the most beatings and contain many moving parts. Angie’s list went to the experts for their estimates on the average life of major appliances:

10–15 years for refrigerators and freezers

10–15 years for dishwashers

10-15 years for clothes washers and dryers

10–20 years for water heaters

10-15 years for central air conditioning unit.

We hope you find these guidelines useful. We suggest that if your appliances are in the age ranges discussed above, you should call a maintenance and repair service to assess and or service your equipment. Minor repairs and maintenance can lead to substantial energy savings and prolong the life of your appliance.

Join us tomorrow when we will conclude our series by discussing preventive maintenance.
