Terrazzo Flooring

Why is Terrazzo Floor Restoration so attractive again? It is excellent, and terrazzo floors polished seamless. And, nowadays, it is effortless to maintain. Many Floridians, especially in Miami and Ft Lauderdale, are fortunate because there is a store trove of real 50’s/60’s terrazzo concealed in their homes, under the rug, under the tile, even under the flooring. In the 1950s to early 1970s, terrazzo became the floor of choice for most Florida homes. It is now mentioned as Mid Century Modern. Previously, when constructing a home, the builder would put up the exterior basement walls, then pour the 5/8-inch thick terrazzo floor care in place. Then, the floor would be ground smooth before fixing the interior walls on top of the terrazzo.

What caused the demand for these Mid Century Modern Floors to decline? This is not easy to maintain a home; and, we Wanted expert maintenance mechanics.

So many floors became scratched, stained, and damaged. When the mid-’70s appeared, carpeting became common, particularly shag carpeting. Regrettably, shag carpeting begins to famous Florida ‘cover-up’.

Understanding Terrazzo and its sources

The word terrazzo is from the Italian word for terraces. In the 15th Century, Venetian stone workers began using their excess pieces leftover from marble plate processing.

Around their living quarters, they laid the mixture of chips and cement on the floors of the terraces. Uncomfortable to walk on this, but the surface is durable. So they started hand sanding the surface to make it flat and more satisfying. They even began to make plans on the floor that couldn’t be achieved by conventional marble laying.

Terrazzo Flooring Services

Most designers use new terrazzo floors for both interior and exterior. But, the Mid Century Modern Terrazzo floors are making a recovery too. Maximum cases can repair old terrazzo for a part of a new floor’s cost.

Old floors require more caring, chip repair, and stay alert to stains. At first, repair the holes from old carpet tack pieces and gouges discovered from the past can be cut out. Then new marble pieces are suited to the old chips. Also, the original cement is matched to the color of the old cement.

Terrazzo Floor Care

Most restoration repairs are virtually undetectable. When the repairs are finished, each is inspected for color combination and match. Old stains can be the most challenging. Some have gone so extended that even a stain-removing poultice cannot eliminate it. Nevertheless, it can eliminate many of the remaining stains in the grinding method.

At first, with a diamond-bonded disk, grind the floor. Next is a range of finer and finer sanding disks to eliminate all marks and complete the smoothing method. At last finally finished the terrazzo floor restoration. Over a bright and clean floor, a unique powder and polisher give a glass-like polish. This polishing renews radiance to the chips and provides a very hard, long-lasting high shine on your floor. If any stains live, they will be lighter, stubborn stains that can arrogantly proclaim the authenticity of the Mid Century floor.
